About Us

Yap began shooting digital in year 2001 when Digital Photography was at its early stage. He got into wedding photography when he was asked to cover his friend’s wedding in March 2002 as a favour . He fell in love with shooting weddings from then on.  “Surrounded by happy people whole day long, it is truly an amazing job”, says Yap.

He would look for weddings to shoot, almost every weekend. Naturally the equipment list and investment grew.  In 2005, he set up and registered CatchLights Photography with Kelly as a business partner. Today, CatchLights Photography, is also actively involved with Product, Portrait, Glamour, and Commercial photography.

Asked about his choice in Nikon cameras, Yap said, “I remember getting a Nikon SLR from my uncle when I was 13 years old. I was hooked with it and the name imprinted in me”

“Wedding Photography is an Art form. We look at elements that make us feel and it affects the images we create. As artists, we communicate emotions in our work.” comments Yap

Yap suggests covering wedding events with 2 photographers. Two wedding photographers give better coverage and diversity, and assure a more complete wedding story from a variety of views and angles.

Importance is placed on providing Quality Images rather than quantity, which is why he shoots in 14-Bit RAW (NEF), for better image quality control and good colour accuracy.

Kelly‘s photography career began when she bought a Nikon F80 for a holiday trip to Australia in 2002. Wanting to get better vacation and scenery photos, she took a crash course in using a film SLR. Soon after the trip, she began joining photography outings.

“We would meet up weekly and go take photos of the street activities, people and architectures, day and night”, says Kelly.

Kelly got into wedding photography when Yap asked her to help in wedding assignments, and later as partner in CatchLights Photography.

From small but telling details to unusual angles, she wants to produce images which are intimate and iconic at the same time.

She is also well verse with Adobe Photoshop and areas of Digital Imaging, which in the digital age; it is both a necessity and an advantage.  She uses a large professional Wacom Pen Tablet for photo retouching & professional art work.

Kelly & CatchLights uses high end professional digital cameras for all assignments.
